A 44-year-old-man, Olanrewaju Yusuf, has been arrested by men of the Osun State Police Command for allegedly burgling a shop belonging to a trader.

Yusuf, who was accused of stealing rugs and carpets worth N1, 565,000 at about 3pm in Osogbo, on August 2, 2022, was arraigned before a Chief Magistrate’s Court in the town on two-count-charge of conspiracy and theft.

Police prosecutor, Inspector Kayode Adeoye, informed the court that the accused person and others at large, conspired to commit the said offence.

The charge brought against him read that “You, Olanrewaju Yusuf and others now at large, on or about the second day of August, 2022, at about 3pm at Fakunle area, Osogbo, Osun State, did conspire among yourselves to commit a felony to wit stealing.

“You did, at the same time and place, steal 30 (pieces of) rug carpets, and 20 (pieces of) ordinary carpets all valued at N1, 565,000 (One million, five hundred and sixty five thousand naira) property of Jesutowo Company.”

Adeoye said that the offence contravened sections 516, 383 and 390(9) of the Criminal Code, Cap 34, Volume II Laws of Osun State of Nigeria, 2002.
Yusuf, who faced prosecution without legal representation, however, pleaded not guilty to the offence.

Chief Magistrate Olusola Aluko granted him bail in the sum of N500, 000 with two sureties in the same amount.

One of the sureties, according to Aluko, should be a civil servant while the other must be a house owner within the jurisdiction of the court.
