policeman attached to the Anti-Cultism Unit of the Lagos State Police Command has allegedly slapped a magistrate after damaging a part of his car.

A policeman attached to the Pedro Police Station, who spoke under the condition of anonymity, told our correspondent that the incident occurred when the Magistrate, identified as Mr. A. Layini, was driving in his Toyota Corolla car along Ikorodu Road and decided to park around the Palmgrove bus stop.

He said that the overzealous policeman then came from behind and hit the magistrate’s car with the butt of his gun, damaging a part of the vehicle.

According to the police inspector, “As if that was not enough, he opened the driver’s door of the vehicle, pulled the magistrate out and gave him a resounding slap. The magistrate wanted to make a call with his mobile phone, he snatched it from him and smashed it on the floor.

“That was when the magistrate brought out his identity card and it then dawned on the policeman that he had met his waterloo. Infact, it was as if the ground should just open its bowels and swallow him. The policemen began to beg the magistrate. But the magistrate was very kind to him. He forgave the policeman, but only told him to replace what he had damaged on his
car.

“Some top police officers had to intervene so that the magistrate would not inform the Commissioner of Police about the unruly behaviour of the cop. The policeman was also detained for exhibiting such a bad behaviour in
public.”
