A stray bullet allegedly fired by a policeman chasing a public transporter has hit and killed a student going to sit for his West Africa Examination Council paper on Tuesday morning.
A video that appeared online and watched by THE POINT showed residents of the state with the corpse of the boy at the gate of the Oyo State Government Secretariat in Ibadan.
The protesters were heard demanding justice and asking Governor Seyi Makinde to intervene and ensure that the team of policemen and the shooter are apprehended and prosecuted.
Eyewitnesses’ accounts revealed that a policeman, while trying to shoot at a vehicle they were chasing along Gbagi market road in Ibadan, hit the innocent school student with a stray bullet while he was in his father’s car.
“The student was rushed to Welfare Hospital but was declared dead on arrival (DOA),” a resident in the area said.
According to the sources, the student, along with his twin, was on his way to write his WAEC examinations on Tuesday morning when the incident occurred.
Protesters took the corpse to the Oyo State Secretariat to inform Governor Seyi Makinde.
As at the time of this report, authorities were yet to react to the tragic incident.
