Protesters take over Abuja streets, demand cancellation of presidential election

BY BENEDICT NWACHUKWU, ABUJA

The call for the cancellation of the Saturday, February 25 presidential election heightened on Tuesday as Nigerians took over the streets of Abuja to press home their demands.

The protesters who called on the INEC Chairman, Mahmood Yakubu, to heed to the advice of former president, Olusegun Obasanjo said the electoral body has failed Nigerians who deposed hope on his promises to deliver free, fair, transparent and credible elections.

They lamented that the INEC Chairman during the processes of the election promised Nigerians that the Commission will use BVAS to accredit the voters and use the IReV to transmit the result from the polling units to its server but failed to meet up with his promises.

The protesters warned that the INEC chairman’s refusal to retrace his steps and continues with the Collation will trigger unrest that will do nobody any good.
