Quit notice to Igbo: Call Arewa youths to order, Guru Maharaj tells Sultan

The Founder and Spiritual Head of the One Love Family, Sat Guru Maharaj, has enjoined the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Saad Abubakar, to call to order the coalition of Arewa youths groups over the three months quit notice they recently issued to Igbo resident in the Northern parts of the country.

He also urged the Sultan to prevail on the Northern youths to withdraw the ultimatum given to the Igbo to leave their region. Maharaj made this appeal to the Sultan during the 24th anniversary of the Maharaj Village Worship Centre in Ibadan, Oyo State.

He urged the monarch to caution the Northern youths not to engage themselves in acts capable of not only fanning the embers of discord, but which could also set the entire nation on fire.

‘’This quit notice order by Arewa youths is very unfortunate. It should be condemned in its entirety. It is very provocative and there in no basis for it at all. I hereby call on the Sultan of Sokoto to call these youths to order. Not only that, the Sultan should prevail on these Arewa youths to withdraw their quit notice on the Igbo. Nigeria belong to all of us and the constitution of Nigeria guarantees freedom of movement, freedom of expression, and also the right to reside in any part of the country,’’ he said.

Maharaj warned that the quit notice by the Arewa youths should not be taken lightly or treated with levity. Calling on the relevant security agencies to arrest the northern youths involved in the act ,the religious leader said, ‘’Nobody should be seen to be above the law. What these youths have done deserves appropriate sanction. It is also capable of destabilising President Muhammadu Buhari’s government. “Those involved must be persuaded to withdraw their statement and warned to desist from such acts capable of threatening the social coherence and peace of the land’’.

Maharaj, who urged Nigerians to see one another as members of one family, added that peace, unity, and harmony could only prevail in the nation, when Nigerians showed genuine love towards one another.
