Rainstorm kills one, destroys property, displaces 600 residents in Osun

No fewer than 600 people have been displaced and a life lost following a rainstorm that wrecked havoc on Iloko community in Oriade Local Government Area of Osun State.

The National Emergency Management Agency in collaboration with Osun SEMA and community leaders conducted an assessment of the damage.

It was reported in March that residents and traders of Iloko-Ijesa in the state lost property worth millions of naira to a heavy rainfall that ravaged the community and destroyed homes of residents.

Giving a report on the assessment of the damage on Wednesday, NEMA, in a statement posted on its X handle said several buildings and other property were destroyed in the incident.

Led by AZC Olanrewaju Kazeem, the team was received by Oba Akeem Ogungbangbe, who provided insights into the tragic situation.

The assessment revealed significant destruction, including property damage, loss of livelihoods, and one fatality.

Kazeem disclosed that over a thousand people were affected by the calamity, with 600 residents displaced from their homes.

The statement read, “NEMA Southwest Zonal Office, in collaboration with Osun State SEMA and community leaders, assessed the rainstorm disaster in Iloko, Oriade LGA of Osun State.

“The team, led by AZC Olanrewaju Kazeem, was warmly received by Oba Akeem Ogungbangbe.

“The Oba and community leaders appreciated the quick response and briefed the team on the situation.

“The assessment revealed extensive damage, including property destruction, loss of livelihoods, and one fatality. Over a thousand people were affected, and 600 displaced.”
