Rainy season, time to earn more

As the rainy season approaches, it is time to make money from the sale of rain shields that aid the movement of children and workers during the period.

Investment experts are optimistic that Nigerians can earn as much as 30 per cent profit from the sale of the items. Some of them are:

RAINCOAT, CAP

Raincoats and shower caps are ‘must have’ for almost all, especially people that are not mobile (without personal vehicles). Selling the adult and children sizes will be a money-spinning idea. Even commercial motorcyclists, popularly called Okada riders are in dire need of these items. This season. Besides, security outfits will need them badly as they will need to kit their staff or selves properly, to prevent hindrances at work.

While some job descriptions make it difficult for people to use umbrellas while at work, raincoats may come in handy for such individuals. For example, use of raincoat by dispatch riders and security guards seems to be more appropriate for this category of people, because of the nature of their job.

RECALL

• Startup capital is little, but profit is high

• You can operate a mobile shop for better penetration

• Items to sell are available

Now that the rains are here, it is no longer news that it will affect the movement of people, especially those who don’t own cars, as they will need some items to keep them going.

To this end, raincoats have become part of the valuable gear for you to get going during the rainy season and since the season does not last forever, it gives you an era of quickly making some money while it lasts.

Courier organisations with a lot of dispatch riders; construction companies, other corporate firms as well as private and public schools constitute the target market for your business.

RAIN BOOTS

You can also make brisk business selling rain boots as they will be worn during the rainy season as a protection for the legs while wading through flooded areas on foot after heavy rain. The truth is that, rain-boots are not just needed while it is still pouring, they are also needed after the downpour might have ceased, as the ground would still be wet.

Floors of some commercial centres are not just wet, they are also muddy and sometimes slippery; making it difficult for people to walk as they do not want to soil their leather shoes or sandals. Just like the raincoats, some rain-boots are fashionably designed to serve the purpose of protecting your feet during rain and also to add to the beauty of the one wearing it. So, you are not just targeting construction companies and road workers, you can also target individual business-oriented people, who want to prevent their feet from getting soiled while appearing presentable.

UMBRELLA

An entrepreneurial coach, Mr. Abiodun Esho, advised that you can start selling umbrellas. As we all know that umbrellas are needed by everyone, be it men, women, kids and employees, because the rain is not a respecter of persons, either rich or poor. For instance, foot soldiers/ marketers, who represent organisations are compelled to go out in order to meet their targets. For people like this, the use of umbrella is inevitable, even if they have access to pool cars. Observation has revealed that umbrellas hardly last more than a season. People tend to lose their umbrellas as they easily forget to take them along while in commercial vehicles, especially. The implication of this is that there will be high demand for this protective material throughout the rainy season.

WINDSCREEN WIPER BLADES

The first thing that comes to mind here is that there may not be much demand for windscreen wiper blades probably because they are items that last for as long as three years or more. But an important fact a lot of people seem to be ignorant of is that, some blades that are exposed to the heat get stiff and when the rains start, they become ineffective in wiping off water and steam.

So, car owners, who do not want to experience a cloudy vision when it rains, will be compelled to change the wiper blades and some negligent motorists, whose wiper blades got removed, may not replace them until it starts to rain. People like that are waiting to buy new ones this season.

In this regard, Esho explained that your strategy towards selling as many wiper blades as possible should be unique. According to him, you may not have to wait till it starts raining before you approach transportation and logistics companies with a lot of vehicles, stressing the need for them to change their wiper blades in order to prevent avoidable accidents.

“This may be more profitable than you can imagine, as the cost of individual wiper blade sale may not be much, but the transaction and deal sealed per organisation will surely make you smile to the bank,” he said.
