Three persons have been crushed to death by a truck in ikirun town, headquarters of Ifelodun Local Government Area of Osun State.
The fatal crash occured on Friday afternoon at Emiloju area, opposite Local Government Maternity Centre in the town.
The victims were said to be a male motorcyclist, his female passenger and a pedestrian.
The truck, which was carrying granite from Offa, Kwara State and was driving along the Ikirun road was said to have lost control before it crushed the three persons to death at the spot.
When contacted for confirmation, the Osun State Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Paul Okpe, told The Point that the crash happened due to reckless driving, saying that his men visited the scene and cleaned the casualties.
Okpe said, “We lost three lives due to reckless driving. It’s a truck that rammed into a stationary fuel tanker. But thank God there was no fuel there. But, three persons lost their lives. The truck was coming from Offa, Kwara State.
“The moment I heard of the accident, I called the Chairman of the truck association and he said the truck driver was nor their member.
“Our men have cleared the place. The casualties were a man who was riding an okada and a woman passenger and one pedestrian.”
Meanwhile, the incident sparked protest in the area as aggrieved residents chased the truck driver after he reportedly fled the scene.
