Revealed! Why Okorocha has not been given Certificate of Return

Indications emerged at the weekend that the outgoing Governor of Imo State Rochas Okorocha may not be issued the Certificate of Return for his Senatorial seat until he might have answered some knotty questions on the financial management of his administration.
The Point reliably gathered that the governor, who is yet to be issued certificate by the Independent National Electoral Commission, may be asked to give account of all financial transactions he had under taken, including the N17 billion he allegedly withdrew a few days after the Governorship election which was won by Rt Hon. Emeka Ihedioha of the Peoples Democratic Party.
Controversy still surrounds Okorocha’s declaration as winner of the senatorial election for Imo East which the INEC returning officer, Prof. Ibeabuchi, allegedly declared under duress.
A source close to some top government officials disclosed that Okorocha and some other public officers are likely to be probed after May 29. This is apart from hints from Ihedioha, a few days ago, that he might have to “audit the administration of Governor Okorocha” which the Governor-elect said would be carried by a powerful committee which he intends to set up to look into the administration’s past financial records.
However, Okorocha’s travails are being heaped on a gang up by some politicians who are said to be afraid of what the governor could do in the Senate.
Speaking at the weekend in Owerri, the state capital, the State’s Commissioner for Finance, Mrs. Ugochi Okoro, dismissed the alleged N17 billion withdrawn from the state treasury , saying no such thing had happened, and rather urged the people of the state to be grateful to the prudent expenditure of Governor Okorocha.
Okoro alleged that the reason why Okorocha had not been given his certificate by INEC was because of gang up by some politicians who know what he can do with positions given to him.
” They are waiting to share all the positions at the Senate before they can give him his certificate, they know his worth, it is only him and Orji Uzor Kalu that can give Igbo people that voice that has long eluded us and that is why they are withholding his certificate, ” Okoro claimed.
According to her, both politicians were known for their eloquence and political will needed to bring positive change and development to the
zone.
Okoro continued, “ What is happening is a pure gang up but if this continues, I see more neglect of the South East and for Oshiomole, he is just being used as tactics for destruction.”
She however frowned at the uncomplimentary remarks being hurled at Gov. Okorocha by some people in the state, describing such compliments as ingratitude despite the achievements of the governor in the state.
Okoro however seized the opportunity to highlight some of her achievements in the past eight years which include the raising of the Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) of the state and the promotion of culture in the state among
others.
