To be received by Egba Muslim Council

His Royal Highness, Muhammadu Sanusi II, will, today, Monday February 7, 2022, pay a courtesy visit to Chief Tayo Sowunmi, the Babanla Adinni of Egbaland and Baba Adinni of Ijemo, Abeokuta, as part of events scheduled for Sowunmi’s 80th birthday celebration.
Sowunmi was born on Monday, February 16, 1942 to Chief Sobowale Akanbi Sowunmi and Alhaja Munirat Abeo Sowunmi.
Sanusi, a former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, fondly called SLS (Sanusi Lamido Sanusi), will be received by the Egba Muslim Council, led by the Chief Imam of Egbaland, Fadhilat Sheikh Imam Sa’adallah Bamgbola, top members of the prestigious Abeokuta Sports Club, among other eminent sons and daughters of Egbaland.
Sowunmi, who is the father of Yemi Kolapo, Publisher/Editor-in-Chief of The Point Newspaper, said, “This is a very great honour for me. I have followed HRH since his days as Managing Director of First Bank Plc, through his tenure as the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria and his constructive reign as the Emir of Kano. He is one of the best of the best Nigeria has ever produced in terms of intellect, integrity and courage. He is a pride of the Black race.
“When I told my friends and colleagues in the Council that His Royal Highness had initiated plans to visit me for my forthcoming birthday, many of them said, ‘In this Abeokuta? We have to give him a befitting welcome’.”
In her remarks, Kolapo, Publisher of The Point, said, “HRH Muhammadu Sanusi II is humility personified. He does not joke with friendship, no matter the office he occupies. As the Grand Khalifah of the Tijjaniyyah Islamic Movement, he is my religious leader. He is definitely one of the best Nigeria has produced. I am so excited.”
