SARS operatives hunt Computer Village burglars

Operatives of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad of the Lagos Police Command are on the trail of five burglars said to have broken into some shops at the Computer Village, Ikeja, carting away expensive mobile phones and other valuables.

The burglary of some carefully selected shops at the highbrow Computer Village was said to have taken place some months ago. Our correspondent gathered that a wellstocked shop belonging to Mr. Charles Nwosu, who owns an upscale shop known as Buy Me, was the hardest hit by the burglars, who carted away goods worth over N10million.

The location of Nwosu’s shop beside the police barracks could not deter the criminals, who made a large opening on the wall of his shop before gaining entry into it.

The burglary was also said to have taken place at a weekend when people stayed indoors. Nwosu, it was gathered, only met his shop empty the following Monday when he reported for work. Speaking with our correspondent, the victim of the attack said, “I reported the matter to the police at SARS. I provided clues for the detectives since most of the mobile phones made away with have trackers. It was the trackers that the police preliminarily used to arrest five of the burglars”.

Nwosu said that the arrested persons, who were mainly sons of some prominent Nigerians, made confessional statements to the police, but stated that he was shocked to notice that “police released them after a payment of N50,000 as a part-recovery money for the value of the stolen goods. Till date, nothing has been done about the matter, even though I have been going there, pleading for help”.

However, spokesperson for the Lagos Police Command, Assistant Superintendent Olarinde Famous Cole, said his office had yet to be briefed on the matter. “I shall find out”, Cole said.
