Senate President to tee-off 18 holes golf tourney on Sunday


All is now set for the ninth edition of Dr Abubakar Bukola Saraki golf competition, an 18 holes tournament to mark the 54th birthday of the Senate President in Ilorin, Kwara State.
Addressing newsmen in Ilorin on Tuesday, the Captain of Ilorin Golf Club, Pharmacist Layi Maliki said that the 18 holes competition is to be organized by the club as part of activities to commemorate the 54th birthday anniversary of Dr. Saraki.
The competition, according to Maliki, will be played on Sunday, Dec. 18, and will tee-off  from 7:00a.m.
According to the Ilorin Golf Club’s captain, the Senate President is expected to perform the ceremonial tee- off alongside the Kwara State Governor Alhaji Abdulfatah Ahmed.
The competition is sponsored by a member of the House of Representatives, representing Edu, Moro and Pategi Federal Constituency, Hon. Aliyu Ahman Pategi.The competition is also supported by the Kwara State government.
The tournament is expected to draw professional and amateur golfers from the host club, Ilorin golf club, Mic-com golf and country club Ada, Kadariko golf club Kainji, Ogbomoso recreation club and Ibadan golf club.
The Captain thanked the sponsor of the competition for keeping faith with its sponsorship over the years as it has become a regular tournament in the calendar of the host club while also assuring participants a swell time.
He said the event will commence with a welcome cocktail for participants on Saturday, December 17, while the closing ceremony and presentation of prizes is billed for Sunday, Dec. 18, by 7:00p.m.
It would be recalled that Mustapha Maliki of Ilorin golf club won the 2015 edition of the competition.
