Senate shifts plenary over governorship elections

The Senate has postponed its earlier scheduled plenary to Tuesday, March 21, 2023.

The Red chamber at its last sitting had due to the governorship elections adjourned plenary to Tuesday, March 14, 2023.

The Senate President, Ahmad Lawan, shifted the plenary to March 14 to enable senators vying for governorship positions to participate in the campaigns and elections.

He said, “We have to adjoin for all of us to participate in the campaigns and elections of the governors and states assembly members.”

However, a copy of a memo signed by the Clerk of the Senate, Chinedu Akubueze, announced a new postponement of the plenary.

A copy of the memo stated, “This is to inform all Distinguished Senators of the Federal Republic of Nigeria that the resumption of the Senate in Plenary has been rescheduled from Tuesday, March 14, 2023 to Tuesday, March 21, 2023.

“All distinguished senators are by this notice requested to resume sitting in plenary on Tuesday March 21, 2023 by 10am prompt, please.”

Some of the senators contesting governorship seats include the Deputy Senate President, Ovie Omo-Agege (APC- Delta); Aishatu Binani (APC-Adamawa), Haliru Jika (NNPP-Bauchi), Sandy Onor (PDP-Cross River); Uba Sani (APC-Kaduna), Emmanuel Bwacha (APC-Taraba); Teslim Folarin (APC-Oyo) and Albert Bassey (Akwa Ibom) under the Young People’s Party.
