She beats up my mother, I want divorce, man tells court

  • He’s a liar, his mother slapped me first – Wife

man, Aremu Onikeku, has dragged his wife, Olubunmi Onikeku, before an Ake Customary Court sitting in Abeokuta, Ogun State, for allegedly beating up his mother.

Onikeku also alleged that his wife, who runs a canteen, had since stopped washing his clothes and cooking for him as she would always ask him to come over to her canteen to have his meal whenever he was
hungry.

He told the court that his wife had become promiscuous as she had formed the habit of keeping many concubines and had even introduced their daughter into her illicit sexual act, which made him to put the young girl in his mother’s custody for proper
monitoring.

Onikeku, who expressed worry that his daughter had been nicknamed a dog in their neighborhood due to her indecent lifestyle, said that his wife later went to his mother’s house without his consent and while attempting to take their
daughter away, she also pounced on his mother, beating her up in the process.

But in her defence, Olubunmi told the court that her husband lied against her, stressing that she never raised her hand against his mother.

She said she had to stop coking food for her husband after he moved out of their matrimonial home and began to live in a
church.

Olubunmi said that her husband’s mother came to their house one day to rain curses on her and her daughter and even gave her some slaps, adding that it was in the course of
the fight that her husband came and accused her of beating his
mother.

Onikeku, however, prayed the court to dissolve their marriage, saying that he was not interested in the union anymore and promised that he would continue to be responsible for his children’s
upkeep.

The President of the court, Chief Akande O.O, adjourned the matter for further hearing on the ground that the court could not complete the process for the dissolution of the the marriage in a day.
