The Oyo State Fire Services Agency has recovered the body of a two-year-old girl (name withheld) from a deep well at Orita Mokola Junction, Seedu Sabarumu, Sango in the Saki Local Government Area of the state.
Special Adviser to Governor Seyi Makinde on Fire Services Agency Reform, Maroof Akinwande, confirmed the incident on Wednesday in Ibadan.
According to Akinwande, the emergency was reported to the Saki Zonal Fire Station at exactly 1:43 p.m. by a resident who ran into the station to seek help.
“Our officers, led by PFS11 Saka, immediately moved to the scene. On arrival, we were informed that a girl had fallen into the well,” Akinwande said.
He stated that using rescue equipment, fireman CFM Adediran Jacob went into the well and recovered the girl’s body, which was handed over to a police team led by CSP Odunbanjo Kehinde for further necessary action.
While the cause of the incident is still unknown, Akinwande stated that the Fire Service’s Post-Incident Investigation Team has begun a probe to determine what happened.
He also advised residents to cover wells and septic pits properly to prevent such tragedies.
“We urge the general public to take all safety precautions to prevent open wells and pits from becoming death traps,” he said.
Police probe woman’s death in Abuja hotel
Also, the Federal Capital Territory Police Command has commenced a discreet investigation into the mysterious death of a young woman, Aladi Johnson, also known as Tessy, who was found unconscious with her hands tied behind her in a hotel room in the Gwarinpa area of Abuja.
The disturbing incident, which surfaced through a viral video circulating on social media, has sparked public outrage and concern.
According to a statement on Wednesday by the Police Public Relations Officer, Josephine Adeh, Tessy checked into the hotel located on 3rd Avenue, Gwarinpa, on June 16, 2025, in the company of an unidentified male.
However, the hotel staff members later noticed that the man had exited the premises without her.
Adeh noted that during a routine service round, hotel personnel discovered Tessy unconscious and immediately alerted the Police.
She said, “Preliminary investigation reveals that the victim, later identified as Aladi Offikwu Johnson, also known as Tessy, a female from Benue State, checked into a hotel located at 3rd Avenue, Gwarinpa, on 16th June, 2025, in the company of an unidentified male who was later observed to have exited the premises without her.
“The victim was discovered unconscious by hotel staff during routine service rounds, prompting immediate notification to the Police. She was confirmed dead upon medical evaluation.”
Adeh noted that the Commissioner of Police, FCT, Ajao Adewale ordered a thorough and discreet probe into the circumstances surrounding the tragic death.
Adewale urged members of the public to remain calm and allow the Police to conduct a comprehensive inquiry.
He also advised young women to be cautious in their dealings with unfamiliar individuals and to keep trusted family or friends informed of their whereabouts for safety reasons.
“The Commissioner advises young ladies to exercise caution in their interactions, especially with unfamiliar individuals, and to always share their whereabouts with trusted friends or family members for safety purposes,” the statement added.
