Shuttle drivers seek downward review of daily payback

The Drivers of Magodo Estate Transport Shuttle are unhappy with the levy they are being made to pay by the estate.
While having a discussion with some passengers in one of the shuttle buses, one of the drivers, lamented that it had been hard to meet up with the daily levy because the vehicles could develop mechanical fault unexpectedly.
“If your car develops a fault, they don’t care. They collect the money first before we start work in the morning. We pay between 7,500 and 8,500 for the small buses, while they collect 11,500 from the big buses,” he said.
He bemoaned the fact that the huge levy they were coughing out to the Estate leadership could never enable them to raise or save sufficient funds to own the buses after a while.
“We are the ones who take care of the buses. If the residents could talk to the management to reduce the levy, we are also ready to reduce our fares,” he said.
Another driver, who pleaded anonymity, stated that most of the drivers had no choice than to abide by the rule since there were no jobs in the country.
“Half bread is better than none. We just want the association to consider us and review the law guiding our operations in the estate. We have children and wives to feed at home,” he explained.
The Point, however, learnt that the buses were owned by different zones in the estate and they must recoup their money.
According to a resident, Bimbo Owosina, the money realised goes to the accounts of different zones.
“If they want to do repairs, payment of security guards, end of the year party and other things, they take from the money. We should also have it in mind that they might have collected loan from the bank to buy the cars and are expected to repay the bank with interest,” he noted.
