Sokoto govt, partners expend N1.2b on SDGs

Sokoto State Governor, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, has disclosed that projects worth N1.2 billion have been executed under the Sustainable Development Goals in six local government areas of the state.
Tambuwal stated this on Tuesday at the commencement of distribution of materials, drugs and motorcycles under the SDG/CGS 2015 local government track project at Kware Local Government Area of the state.
He said that the intervention comprised four sectors, namely, education, healthcare services, water supply and agriculture.
The governor said the sum of N200 million would be expended in each of the six benefiting local government areas of Kware, Wurno, Kebbe, Rabah, Isa and Shagari.
According to him, the programme was being financed by the three tiers of government, with 50 percent of the fund coming from the Federal Government while the state and local government councils contributed 30 and 20 percent, respectively.
Tambuwal said, “Of the these figures, the sum of N414,963,614.50 is earmarked to support education activities in the state while the sum of N106,489,673.00 will be expended through the provision of essential drugs and construction and renovation of primary health centres in the state.
“Similarly, the sum of 265,548.046 has been committed for the construction of motorized and solar boreholes across the six benefiting local government areas. On Agriculture, the sum N30,000,000 will be distributed as grant to agric cooperative societies where one million naira will be given to each of the five cooperative societies in each of the benefiting LGAs.”
The governor said that the state would continue to meet its entire obligations to the citizens for effective management of development assistance and bringing rapid growth to the teeming populace through partnership.
In his goodwill message, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Sustainable Development Goals, represented by Adesegun Ogunleye, said that the programme was introduced to improve human development index in Nigeria and give states and local governments financial and technical support to ensure achievement of the set goals.
He commended the efforts of the state government on education, health care and community development.
