Sokoto poly rector wins OIC Mathematics prize award

The Rector of Umaru Ali Shinkafi Polytechnic, Sokoto, Prof. Aminu Alhaji Ibrahim, has emerged the winner of the 2016 Islamic Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation Prize for his outstanding research contributions in Science and Technology.
Ibrahim emerged winner in the Mathematics category alongside reputable scholars, including Dr. Ikram Ul-Haq, a professor emeritus from Pakistan, who won the prize in Biology; Professor of Organic Chemistry at the Faculty of Science, Helwan University, Cairo, Egypt, Dr. Galal Eldin Elgemeie, who was awarded the prize for Chemistry and the Director of Earth Sciences Research Center at the Sultan Qaboos University, Oman, Dr. Sobhi Nasir, who also won the Prize for Geology, among other recipients.
The prizes were presented during a special ceremony organised on the sidelines of the 8th Islamic Conference of Ministers of Higher Education and Scientific Research, held in Bamako, Republic of Mali, in November 2016 with the Minister of Education, Alhaji Adamu Adamu in attendance.
Speaking on the award, Prof. Ibrahim expressed gratitude for the recognition and pledged to continue to contribute to the development of Mathematics study in Nigeria and beyond. He said, “To me, the award is a kind of motivation.

It will further encourage me to do more in my field (Mathematics). I have been in the field for over three decades now, and I have been contributing to the development of Mathematics study.

“This award will further motivate me. It is also a signal that the international community is not unaware of my personal contributions in repositioning the education sector in Nigeria.”
ISESCO was established by the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) in May 1981 with 52 member states, and remains one of the largest international Islamic organisations and specialises in the fields of education, science, and culture.
Its objectives include strengthening, promoting and consolidating cooperation among member States of the OIC in the fields of education, science, culture and communication to achieve world peace and security, particularly through education,
science, culture and communication.
