The Nigeria Police has warned Nigerians against covering up incidents of harassment or misconducts by their rank and file, promising to ensure justice.
A statement made available on the force’s platform on Tuesday, noted that police officers who harass or maltreat civilians would be punished forthwith.
The message was passed across in English and pidgin with images bearing hotlines that victims are to call.
It reads in full, “Good day, Nigerians!
As we continue working to improve our services and strengthen the safety and security of every law-abiding citizen, we acknowledge that instances of friction may sometimes occur.
If you experience or witness any form of police misconduct or harassment, please speak up!
Here’s what to do: Call the Complaint Response Unit (CRU) Helpline or contact the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the state where the incident occurred.
