Stop parading yourself as Onijaye, Gbagura chiefs tell coronet Oba

The Gbagura Council of Chiefs has asked the Olu Asasin of Ijaye Titun, Oba Nafiu Adeyemi, to stop parading himself as the Onijaye of Ijaye in the Abeokuta North Local Government Area of Ogun State.

The council, which gave this advice to the coronet Oba during a press conference at the palace of the Agura of Gbagura, Oba Halidu Olaloko, in Abeokuta, said that the title “Onijaye of Ijaye” being used by Oba Adeyemi was illegal as it did not exist in the Gbagura Obaship system.

The Secretary, Gbagura Council of Chiefs, Abiodun Adenekan, who spoke on behalf of the chiefs, maintained that Oba Adeyemi should stop using the title “Onijaye of Ijaye Titun” to mislead the people of Ijaye community because the certificate issued to him by the state government authenticated his title as Olu Asasin of Ijaye Titun.

Adenekan said, “First and foremost, there is nothing like the Onijaye of Ijaye in the Gbagura set up in Abeokuta here. The coronet oba parading himself as the Onijaye of Ijaye is misleading the community and the society, because by the virtue of his certificate, when he was about to become the coronet Oba, the certificate issued to him by the government of Ogun State bears Olu Asasin of Ijaye Titun.”

The council of chiefs stressed that the Agura of Gbagura land, Oba Olaloko, had written a letter to the Alake and Paramount Ruler of Egbaland, Oba Adedotun Gbadebo, and the state government, to stop Oba Adeyemi from parading himself as the Onijaye of Ijaye.

Adenekan added that the ambition of Oba Adeyemi to become the Onijaye of Ijaye by all means would never come to reality, saying that the monarch was aware that the certificate issued to him by the state government bears Olu Asasin of Ijaye Titun.

“But by parading himself as the Onijaye of Ijaye, it is just a thing that we cannot understand, because he knows the certificate the government of Ogun State issued to him. We don’t have any Onijaye of Ijaye in Gbagura or in Abeokuta at the moment.

So, for now, there is nothing like the Onijaye of Ijaye” he said. The council of chiefs noted that the people of Ijaye had written a letter to both the state government and Oba Gbadebo to confirm the authentic title of Oba Adeyemi as the Olu Asasin of Ijaye.
