Suspected herdsmen kill two Ekiti monarchs, attack PoS operators in Imo

Gunmen suspected to be herdsmen, on Monday, killed two traditional rulers in Ekiti State.

The incident was said to have happened between Oke-Ako and Ipao-Ekiti in Ajoni Local Government Area of the state.

The duo – Onimojo of Imojo Ekiti in Oye Local Government Area and Elesun of Esun Ekiti in Ajoni, Ikole Local Government Area of Ekiti State, were attacked by the gunmen while returning from a meeting.

Sources disclosed that another monarch, Alara of Ara in Ikole LG, however, narrowly escaped when the armed men accosted them and attempted to forcefully take them away.

“They were travelling together. The armed herdsmen stopped them and rained bullets on them. They took their personal belongings and dragged their bodies into the bush,” a source said.

In another development, gunmen on Monday struck at Ohii Junction on the Owerri-Orlu Road in Imo State.

The attack left no fewer than four persons dead.

Sources said that two of the victims were policemen reportedly on duty in the area.

A Facebook user, Anyaeri Bright, who shared a video clip of the incident, confirmed that two policemen and two civilians allegedly lost their lives in the attack.

It was gathered that the fleeing gunmen opened fire at the junction, which claimed the lives of the victims.

This is even as some Point of Sales operators were attacked and their monies were stolen in parts of Owerri on Monday.

A witness, Presh Iheanacho said, “Earlier today, around 9am, some armed men in a Corolla vehicle attacked some POS shops and passersby just before Rapour Junction, disposing them of cash and valuables.”

Another resident, Ikechukwu Eze, disclosed that some POS operators were robbed at Amawire – Orji on the Owerri – Okigwe Road.

Iheanacho also disclosed that around 8am on Monday, some criminals stormed Christiana junction at Egbu Road and robbed PoS operators.

The spokesperson for the police in the state, Henry Okoye, said that he had yet to be briefed when contacted.
