In a bid to end maternal mortality in Ebonyi State, wife of the state governor, Mrs Mary- Maudline Nwifuru has sponsored free enrollment of a total of 4, 078 pregnant women into the state health insurance scheme between November 2024 to June 2025.
The First Lady disclosed this while addressing journalists in Abakaliki, Ebonyi State capital on achievements of her office within two years in office.
Mrs Nwifuru represented by Nkechi Emma-Echiegu, the Team Lead of her Foundation identified as Better Health for Rural Women, Orphans and Internally Displaced Persons Foundation vowed to ensure that no woman will die in the state in the process of giving birth to another human.
Emma- Echiegu noted that Office of the Governor’s Wife had made significant achievements within the two years of the present administration in the state ranging from youths, women empowerment, scholarship to indigent children, domestication of disability law, establishment of nutrition center to curb malnutrition among children and others.
She said, “So far, 600 infants from 0 to 5 years were captured for immunization across the 13 local government areas of the state.
We have empowered the youths on various skills and they were given start-up kits and funds. Women groups from various local governments have been empowered in agriculture and supported with farm inputs. We have done a lot to end Gender Based Violence, Female Genital Mutilation, drug abuse, girl child education, empowerment of internal displaced persons among many other interventions.”
