Taraba State on Saturday lost a new member-elect of the House of Representatives for Jalingo/Yorro/Zing Federal Constituency, Isma’ila Maihanchi.

The lawmaker-elect reportedly died in the early hours of Saturday after a brief illness in Abuja.

This was disclosed in a short statement by the spokesperson of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Andeta’rang Irammae.

Irammae said, “Shortly after the election, the member-elect fell sick and has been receiving medical treatment in Abuja.

“The deceased will be missed not only by the party but the people of the state at large.”

Also speaking, the Acting chairman of the party, Abubakar Bawa described the death as a big blow to the PDP family in the state and the country at large.

A family source confirmed that the late member became ill shortly after he was declared winner of the just concluded election.

The deceased contested the National Assembly election on the platform of the PDP, defeating his opponents from the All Progressives Congress, the New Nigerian Peoples Party and the Social Democratic Party, by a landslide to emerge House of Representatives member-elect on February 25.
