Teenager remanded in prison for robbing woman of N3.2m, motorcycle, phone

A Magistrate’s Court sitting in Osogbo, capital of Osun State, has ordered that an 18-year-old boy, Olalekan Benjamin, be remanded in the custody of the Nigeria Correctional Service for allegedly robbing a woman of her money and other belongings.

Benjamin was accused of breaking into the house of one woman, Onikola Motunrayo Sandra, at Kokobidi area, Osogbo, and carting away the cash sum of N3,278,540, one phone and a motorcycle.

The boy, according to the state Police Command, had attacked Sandra’s house on August 26, 2023 at about 2:15pm with the intention of stealing.

With his first attempt not being successful, Benjamin allegedly revisited the house alongside his gang members, said to be at large, on September 2, 2023, and stole the money and properties worth N400,000.

“That you Olalekan Benjamin and others now at large, on the 2nd day of September, 2022 at about 11:00am,at Kokobidi area, Osogbo, Osun State, did break and enter into the dwelling house of one Onikola Motunrayo Sandra, and did steal one motorcycle, one Infinix mobile phone, and the sum of N3,278,540:00k; all valued N3,678,540:00k, property of Onikola Motunrayo Sandra.

“You, Olalekan Benjamin, on the 26th day of August, 2023 at about 2:15pm at Kokobidi area, Osogbo, Osun State, in the aforementioned Magisterial District, did break and enter into the dwelling house of one Onikola Motunrayo Sandra, with intent to commit a felony therein,” some of the counts preferred against the accused person read.

The Police Prosecutor, Inspector Adeoye Kayode, informed the court that the accused teenager committed offences contrary to and punishable under Sections 390(9), 412, 516 and 509 of the Criminal Code Cap 34 Vol. II laws of Osun State of Nigeria 2002.

Benjamin, who had no legal representation, pleaded not guilty to the allegations.

However, Magistrate M. A. Olatunji ordered that the boy be remanded in Ilesa Correctional Centre and adjourned for the consideration of his bail.
