Teenager stabs step-brother to death in Lagos

16-year-old girl (names withheld) has allegedly stabbed her step-brother, simply identified as Kingsley, to death following a fight that ensued between the two of them.

Our correspondent gathered that trouble broke out between the two siblings, when the deceased challenged his step-sister for coming home late.

The incident occurred at about 11:30 pm at the residence, where they both live with their parents at number 14, Akinsoji Street, Ladipo, Oshodi area of Lagos.

It was gathered that the teenager stabbed the deceased in the neck with a pair of scissors, which was in her pocket when the fight began.

Our correspondent learnt that the 24-year-old victim had slapped his step-sister following a rude behaviour she displayed towards him when he challenged her for coming back home late.

It was learnt that the suspect, who was described as “being notorious,” retorted and insulted the deceased for questioning her movements.

The fracas between the two of them, however, escalated into a heated brawl, which led to the stabbing of the stepbrother.

According to neighbours, who spoke to our correspondent, Kingsley gave up the ghost about two hours after his step-sister stabbed him.

The two private hospitals in the area, which he was rushed to, rejected him before he was later taken to the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, Ikeja.

He, however, died before he arrived at the teaching hospital.

When our correspondent visited the residence of the deceased, where the incident took place, family members and sympathisers besieged the house to condole with their parents.

Some of them, who spoke to our correspondent, described the incident as unfortunate.

Speaking to our correspondent, a member of the family, simply identified as John, said, discreetly, “This is very sad. The parents are in a serious depression.”

Narrating how the incident occurred, John said, “According to the mother, because she was the one that narrated the incident to us, the sister just came back that night around 11:30 pm and started banging the door.

“The brother opened the door and questioned where she was coming from, but she just started abusing him that she did not have any business with him and even made some uncomplimentary remarks.

“So her brother descended on her and they began to fight. Shortly after, she said they heard a cry and neighbours rushed out of their rooms and they found the boy on the ground in a pool of blood.

“We rushed him to hospitals around; they said they could not attend to him and that we should take him to the General Hospital, but before we got there, he died.”

Also speaking, a neighbour who would not want to be identified, said, “The girl is wayward and the problem is from her parents. I can’t imagine a girl of her age to be so fearless and rude.

“She smokes, takes drugs and I am sure she is into cultism, because on several occasions, I have found her in places where decent children should not be found. Her parents cannot control her. There was a time when her mother slapped her and she slapped her back.”

Corroborating, another resident, Ben, said, “I was so mad when the boy died, because I was one of those who carried him. We were looking for vehicles to carry us to hospital, but nobody helped. The boy was even able to walk by himself some distance, in spite of the blood gushing out of his body. But at a point, he just felt weak and I had to
carry him.”

Meanwhile, an official of the Child Protection Network, Oshodi Isolo, confirmed to our correspondent that the suspect had been detained at the Criminal Investigation Department, Panti, Yaba, Lagos, while the deceased’s corpse had been deposited at the mortuary.

The Lagos state police Public Relation Officer, SP Chike Oti, confirmed the case, saying that “Police investigation is ongoing.”
