Teenager, three others docked for stealing 30 cows

A teenager, Adams Muhammed, has been arraigned by the Osun State Police Command alongside three others for allegedly stealing cows.

Others docked before a Chief Magistrate’s Court, sitting in Osogbo, included Saheed Muhammed, aged 35, Mufutau Badmus, 45; and Muhammed Bolakale, 30.

Muhammed, aged 18, was accused of conspiring with the trio and others at large to steal 30 cows worth N12 million on September 4, 2022 in Okinni community of the state.

The charge read, “That you Saheed Muhammed, Mufutau Badmus, Muhammed Bolakale, and Adams Muhammed and others now at large, on September 4, 2022 at Bukola Marshal Farm, around Okanla Central Mosque, Okinni, sitting in the Osogbo Magisterial District, did conspire to commit felony to wit stealing and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 516 of the Criminal Code Cap 34, Vol. II Laws of Osun State of Nigeria, 2002.

“you did steal thirty cows valued at Twelve Million Naira (N12,000,000,00), property of one Engineer Oyekanmi Oyewole Bukola and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 390(9) of the Criminal Code, Cap 34, Vol II, Laws of Osun, 2002.

“That you Saheed Muhammed sometimes in June 2022, at Bukol Marshal Farm, around Okanla Central Mosque, Okinni, did fraudulently obtain the sum of Three Hundred Thousand Naira from one Engineer Oyekanmi Oyewole Bukola under the pretence that you want to buy one male and one female cow, knowing full well to be false and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 419 of the Criminal Code Cap 34, Vol II, Laws of Osun, 2002. ‘They pleaded not guilty to the allegations.

Police prosecutor, ASP Taiwo Adegoke, informed the court that the defendants were herdsmen and that they don’t have traceable addresses and urged the court to be discretional in granting them bail.

The presiding Magistrate Olusegun Ayilara, ordered the accused persons to furnish the court with a formal bail application. They were remanded in correctional custody.
