Troops of Operation Hadin Kai have carried out coordinated air and ground assaults in the early hours of Monday, striking Boko Haram and ISWAP strongholds across multiple locations in Borno and Yobe States.

The joint offensive targeted hideouts in Nzalgana, Gujba Local Government Area, and the notorious Tumbuktu Triangle, a long-time insurgent sanctuary.

According to a post shared on the Nigerian Army’s Facebook page on Monday, the strikes resulted in heavy casualties among the terrorists, including their leaders.

Among those neutralised was Ameer Malam Jidda, a top Boko Haram/ISWAP commander known for orchestrating attacks from his bases in Ngorgore and Malumti Villages.

His death marks a significant blow to the group’s command structure in the region.

In a separate but related development, troops operating in Abadam recovered the bodies of additional insurgents and seized a cache of weapons during a follow-up operation in Mallamfatori.

This action is part of a broader military campaign aimed at dislodging the remnants of terrorist elements from their remaining enclaves in the Lake Chad region.

This offensive marks one of the most coordinated efforts in recent months against insurgent groups in the region, as Nigeria intensifies efforts to bring an end to the more than decade-long insurgency.

The post read, “In the early hours of today, June 9, 2025, troops of Operation Hadin Kai launched simultaneous air and ground attacks on Boko Haram/ISWAP strongholds in Nzalgana, Gujba LGA, and the Tumbuktu Triangle, resulting in significant casualties among terrorists and their leaders. Notably, Ameer Malam Jidda, a top commander in Ngorgore and Malumti Villages, was neutralized.

“Meanwhile, in Abadam, additional bodies of terrorists and seized weapons were recovered following the recent military operation in Mallamfatori.”
