Few days after launching his book, ‘Secrets of the Street’, Teju BabyFace has revealed that it was somewhat difficult finding what he wanted in a woman. The talk show host has been married to model and former Most Beautiful Girl in Nigeria contestant, Tobi since 2012.
He said, “I remember how difficult it was for me to find someone to marry. It took me three years of research, effort, praying and consulting before we got to where we are. I always say that if I had missed that window, I do not think I would be married again. I am not taking anything away from the difficulties young people face in getting future partners.
“For example, I realised at some point that I wanted to marry someone who was beautiful. But if you find them beautiful outside, they will not be beautiful inside. If they are beautiful inside, they will not be beautiful outside. The ones who were beautiful didn’t have manners while the mannered ones were not beautiful. While stating that he should not be taken as a relationship expert as he is still young in mariage and there are challenges, he urged more people to write books and teach.
According to him, we live in an interesting time in the world and things are changing. He further added, “Pastor Sam Adeyemi said the greatest need in the world right now is leadership. We have just written an instructional manual for achieving success out there, but we need more in all areas.
M o r e p e o p l e should w r i t e a n d teach; it cannot be too much. You must see marriage as a contract between you and God, which is to say that no matter what the person does to you, you are committed to it. There are days you would be annoyed, days you would kill the cat, slap the dog or break a few plates. But you must realise that you are committed to this.
“Marriage is a decision you make, it is not always about how you feel. People are going through a lot; I have a friend whose wife is really ill. I can only pray that God help them, I can only pray that one does not face these challenges. As long as your life is not being threatened in marriage, you should be able to stick to it.”
Teju also insisted that without his wife, it would not be possible to write a book. He said her role is unquantifiable and priceless. He stated, “How can one keep on except there are two of them? I do not think we are designed to be alone. I cannot put it to you in concise terms exactly what my wife did for the book but I can assure you that without being beside me, we would not be here today. I mean how about on all those dark lonely nights when things were not going well and she made nice rice for me. What happens when a beautiful woman stands behind you? Where do you put the fact that you hear her laughter in the house? My wife is the other side of me, we are a coin. There is no me without her.”
