THREE suspects have been arrested by the Police in Benin City for allegedly raping a woman along Evbuosa road, Orhionmwon Local Government Area of Edo State and strangling her to death.

The victim had reportedly been robbed by the suspects and dispossessed of about N30,000 before she was raped.

The suspects were said to have dragged the deceased to a nearby bush, where they allegedly raped her in turns.

The Police confirmed the incident, saying that the body of the woman had been deposited in the morgue.

Some members of a vigilante group in the area, however, said some persons around the area where the incident occurred had heard the woman screaming but were not able to find her because she had been dragged into the bush.

A shirt was found around the area, which the search party reportedly used to trace the owner, identified as Destiny Osa, who was later arrested by locals and handed over to operatives at the Ugo Police Division.

He was said to have been transferred to the Anti-Kidnapping and Cyber Crime Unit of the Edo State Police Command for further investigation.

Osa, who led the Police to arrest the other two suspects, was said to have narrated how his gang robbed, raped and murdered the trader in the bush.

The two other suspects, identified as Etim Zion and Samuel Jeremiah, were said to be indigenes of Akwa Ibom State, but resident in Edo.

Edo State Police Public Relations Officer, Chidi Nwabuzor, who confirmed the incident, noted that no one had come for the body of the deceased.

He advised anyone whose family member left home since Saturday, December 19, 2020, to Evbuosa and had not returned home, to contact the office of the Anti Kidnapping/Cyber Crime Unit of the Edo State Police Command in Benin city.

He also assured that the three suspects would be charged to court for prosecution.
