THE Osun State Police Command has dragged a 38-year-old herb seller, Ganiyat Oladapo, before a Magistrate’s Court sitting in Osogbo for allegedly selling a nursing mother’s baby.

Oladapo was arraigned on a two-count charge of conspiracy and trafficking and unlawful procurement.

The prosecutor, Inspector Jacob Akintunde, informed the court that Oladapo and others, now at large, sometime in June 2020, at Osogbo, conspired and procured one Mariam Oladapo from Osogbo to Anambra State where her child was sold for N150,000.

According to the prosecution, the accused committed an offence punishable under Section 14(2) of the Trafficking in Persons (Prohibition) Law Enforcement and Administration Act, 2003.

But the defendant pleaded not guilty to the count preferred against her.

The defence counsel, Taiwo Awokunle, moved an oral bail application, which was later opposed by the prosecutor on the ground that Ganiyat would run away.

The Magistrate, Modupe Awodele, granted the bail to the defendant in the sum of N1 million with two sureties.

She adjourned the case to February 9, 2021, for hearing.
