Two filling stations in Emure town, Ekiti State have been sealed off by the Petroleum Product Regulation and Consumer Protection Agency, for allegedly selling a litre at the rate of N2,000.
The Chairman of PPRCPA, Arinka Odunayo and his team were out for monitoring exercise to some filing stations in Ado-Ekiti, Ikere, Ise and Emure when the incident was discovered.
In some filling stations that were dispensing petrol when the agency visited, it ensured orderliness and maintenance of peace.
However, in Emure Ekiti, two filling stations were sealed off and penalized for selling a litre far beyond the approved price.
Arinka said the stations located in Emure Ekiti were shut down for defying petroleum regulations and exploiting the masses.
The PPRCPA Chairman warned that any act of fraudulent or exploitation of Ekiti people by filling stations during the hard times would not be tolerated under Governor Oyebanji’s watch.
He said it is true that the fuel scarcity is nationwide but no filling stations should hide under that to exploit Ekiti people noting that the sealed stations would be fined and sanctioned.
Meanwhile, the agency has warned all filling stations against selling fuel for customers with kegs above five litres, adding that the directive is to curb the activities of those stockpiling the fuel for the purpose of selling at black market.
Arinka noted that aside from the ongoing monitoring exercise occasioned by the nationwide fuel scarcity, the agency carries out routine surveillance aimed at monitoring product price, quality, availability and pump efficiency.
