TWO policemen have been shot dead, while two others sustained injuries in a clash between police officers and soldiers at the Independent National Electoral Commission Collation Centre in Jalingo, Taraba State capital.

It was gathered that the two policemen were killed on Monday following what sources said was a minor disagreement between soldiers and policemen guarding the state’s INEC headquarters. The fracas lasted for an hour, it was learnt.

The soldiers were said to have sent the policemen away from the INEC collation centre and later invaded the police headquarters, where they reportedly chased away police officers on duty.

Vehicles parked inside the police headquarters were also reportedly vandalised during the incident as residents were thrown into panic with sporadic gunshots by the warring sides.

The Commissioner of Police in the state, Suleiman Amodu, said, during a press conference on the incident, that a high-powered investigative panel would be set up to establish the cause.

The Commandant, 6 Brigade, Nigerian Army, Jalingo, Brig. Gen. Frank Etim, and the state Director of the Department of State Services were in attendance.
