Umahi sacks Education Secretaries, Zonal Education Supervisors

The Ebonyi State Government has sacked all Education Secretaries and Zonal Education Supervisors in the state over fraud allegations.

The state governor, David Umahi made this known in a public service announcement signed by Secretary to the State Government, Kenneth Ugbala, and made available to The Point Correspondent.

The statement explained that the development was geared towards repositioning the state’s educational sector.

The governor urged all Local Government Areas in the state to organise education and health summits to reevaluate education and health systems, and make useful suggestions on how to make the systems more functional.

The statement read in part, “Following the emergency meeting held at the Presidential Lodge New Government House, Abakaliki, between His Excellency, the Governor of Ebonyi State, Engr. Chief David Nweze Umahi, and stakeholders in education sector, on how to improve Ebonyi State education system, the following resolutions were reached;

“All the Education Secretaries that were on leave are to face disciplinary action to ascertain the level of their involvement in the fraud in our education system. Consequently, all the Education Secretaries that were on leave are hereby removed from office.”

Ugbala also through the statement directed local government chairmen to reshuffle the principals, headmasters and teachers in the schools within their domain as part of efforts to reawaken the education sector in the state.

He said, “All Teachers, Headmasters and Principals (both Junior and Senior) are to be reshuffled within their Local Government Areas. Local Government Chairmen are to liaise with concerned authorities to carry out this directive.

“Zonal Education Supervisors are by this announcement removed from their offices.”

He directed that all local government should organise health and education seminars under the guidance of the coordinating commissioner and his office, from July 1, 2021.

He said, “All Local Government Areas in Ebonyi State are to organise education and health summits to reevaluate our education and health systems and make useful suggestions on how to make the systems more functional. This will be coordinated by the office of Secretary to the State Government and Coordinating Commissioner from 1st July, 2021.

Charging all stakeholder to take action to preserve the environment, he called on school heads, teachers and students to plant at least a tree each, which the LG chairmen will supervise.

“All the Headmasters and Principals of schools are hereby directed to ensure regular clearing of their school premises and also, every pupil, student and staff of each school is to plant at least one tree and this should be supervised by the 13 Council Chairmen in their various LGAs. All concerned must strictly comply with this directive,” he said.
