Unique Schools groom new talents at inter-house sports competition

It was fun and excitements at this years’ Unique Group of Schools, Lagos, triennial interhouse sports competition held at Agege Stadium on Monday.

The event, which brought together the pre-school, primary and secondary sections of the school together, featured  athletic activities, march past, football match etc.

Speaking at the event, the Head of School, Mr. Gbenga Kareem, said Physical Education is a key element of education considering its importance to the well being of learners.

Kareem said, “Aside from academics which is very important to the growth of every child, they need to exercise and keep fit to keep their bodies and souls together as well as for all round development.”

He explained that the school ensured that the phycomotor aspect of learning is emphasised alongside teaching and learning.

He, however, advised parents to compliment the efforts of the school by allowing their children to pursue their God-given talents.

“It is not all of them that will be big men and women with their pens. Some will use their legs; some, their hands while some will use other skills God bequeaths to them.” he said.

Kareem urged government to put more money into sports considering its potential to the advancement of nation’s economy.

The principal of the school, Mrs. Oluwakemi Onochie, in her remarks on the occasion, said that all aspects of learning are necessary for all-round development of learners.

It said, “It is important we also engage the children in the psychomotor aspect of learning and that is what we are doing today.

“A lot of them are academically sound; a lot are not too good in academics but they are very sound when it comes to physical skills. So, the occassion of today is to showcase the physical skills, the talent and the gift in the children alongside academics.

“It is not every child that will become a doctor or engineer; some are out to excel in life as a result of the potentials in them. Parents should allow God to lead and direct a child to become what he is destined to be.

“Of course, we all know that a lot of men and women are making it all over the world in sports, So, we should ancourage the children in whatever area they have interest.

“There should be deliberate move to continue with good systems so that our educational system can be at pall with the developed countries of the world”.

this”.
