UPDATE: Okupe steps down as Director General of LPPCC

  • Says ‘I am with PO, Obidients’

BY TIMOTHY AGBOR

Doyin Okupe has stepped down from his position as the Director-General of the Labour Party Presidential Campaign Council.

He, however, pledged his commitment and loyalty to the Presidential Candidate of the party, Peter Obi and the party’s teeming supporters popularly called Obidients.

Okupe on Tuesday, barely 24 hours after he paid N13 million to avoid being sent to prison, tendered his resignation letter as DG, and addressed it to Peter Obi.

At exactly 18:27 pm on Tuesday evening, he personally announced the resignation via a terse tweet on his verified handle @doyinokupe.

He wrote, “It’s time to step aside. But I am with PO and the Obidients and the Presidential Campaigns till God gives us victory in Jesus Name.”

Okupe’s resignation followed his conviction for money laundering offenses by Justice Ijeoma Ojukwu, who sentenced him to two years imprisonment with an option of N13 million fine.

The case was brought against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.
