National Convention of the main opposition party, Peoples Democratic Party, has been scheduled to hold in Abuja on October 31.

Presenting the communique at the end of National Executive Commitee meeting of the party held in Abuja on Saturday, the national publicity secretary, Kola Ologbondiyan, told the media that
NEC resolved that Abuja should be the venue of the national elective convention slated for October 31, 2021.

He said NEC is to meet on September 9, to approve the various nominations into respective national convention committees.

According to him, the matter concerning the embattled national chairman, Prince Uche Secondus, who was absent, was not mentioned in the NEC meeting adding that the reason may not be unconnected with the various court orders surrounding it.

Ologbondiyan noted that the party’s top hierarchy emphasized the indivisibility of the party, stressing the “need to remain united as a party and to work assiduously towards removing the inept, indolent and corrupt APC from government come 2023 general elections.”

Her added that “In order to actualise this, NEC urges members to continue to make personal sacrifices in the overall interest of our party, commending the PDP governors efforts in commissioning landmark projects in their states of the federation where our party has been handed over the responsibility of governance.”

The PDP spokesman further said, “the good works going on in the various states of the federation governed by the PDP is a sign of improvement and assurance to Nigerians of good dividends which the party wishes to deliver when it takes over in 2023.””

On the membership drive, Ologbondiya said “We are running a compressed programme. The online membership registration exercise will not affect the congresses. As the time we have now we will be able to complete our congresses before our national convention,” he stated.

He disclosed that the party will storm Anambra state on Tuesday as a pilot state for the exercise and added that the governor Godwin Obaseki-led commitee is already on top of the programme.
