AT least two persons were killed on Thursday in a helicopter crash at Ikeja, Lagos, while one victim has been hospitalised.
The helicopter, carrying three passengers, had crashed at about noon, into a building at No 16A, Salvation Road, Opebi area of Lagos State.
One of the victims has been hospitalised at the Intensive Care Unit of the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital. The remains of the two victims, who lost their lives, have been deposited at the morgue.
When The Point’s correspondent arrived the scene at about 1pm, officials of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency and fire fighters had arrived the scene.
As at the time of filing this report, sympathisers and residents were seen discussing the unfortunate event while response officials did their job.
The Director-General, Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, confirmed the incident on Thursday, noting that emergency response officials had been deployed to the scene.
“The agency got a distress call concerning a privately operated helicopter that crashed into 16A Salvation Road, Opebi, Ikeja and immediately activated the emergency response plan,” he said, confirming that three passengers were on the private helicopter.
“The helicopter was carrying three passengers; one is in the intensive care unit at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital while the bodies of the two killed on impact have been deposited in the mortuary. We are on top of challenges, especially crowd control while operation is ongoing,” he disclosed.
