Uzodimma commends Diaspora Physicians in Imo for free medical outreach

BY BRIGHT JACOB

Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma has commended members of the Association of Nigerian Physicians in America who have arrived in the state for an intensive five-day medical outreach.

Receiving the members led by Chinyere Anyaogu at the weekend in his office at Government House, Owerri, the Governor lauded them for their thoughtfulness and willingness to give back to the society, reminding them that no sacrifice made for the sake of humanity should be regretted.

Governor Uzodimma who also told the visiting doctors the efforts his government has been making to improve the wellbeing of the citizens of the State, assured them that he will support all the efforts being made to better the lives of the people.

An elated Governor Uzodimma personally took to his social media handle to express his feelings about the medical outreach. His words: “It was a pleasure to receive in the audience, yesterday, the President and members of the Association of Nigerian Physicians in America, who arrived in Imo State for a certified medical mission across the State.

”Recall that during the live phone-in programme I held early this month at the Government House Owerri, I announced our partnership with the Association, once again, for a medical mission across the State.

“This is a charity service from the Association to our people, especially those in the rural areas and as usual, we will accord them every support and necessity for an effective outreach even as I wished them a seamless exercise.

“As they offer this selfless service to our people, it is my prayers that God will provide for them abundantly, all that they desire.” The Imo State Government is collaborating with members of the Association, mainly medical experts practicing in America, for the purpose of giving free medical treatment to interested citizens with one health challenge or the other in Imo State.

The medical outreach will kick-off at the Imo State Specialist Hospital, Ummagumma, Owerri on Monday, January 30, 2023 and will end on February 3, 2023.

During the outreach, the visiting doctors will perform different forms of surgeries on patients who may be having one form of health condition or the other that requires operations at the Federal University Teaching Hospital (formerly FMC), Owerri.

Anyaogu not only thanked Governor Uzodimma for the opportunity given to the team to be home for the exercise but informed that apart from the services to be rendered at Imo Specialist Hospital, Owerri and at the Federal University Teaching Hospital, health services will also be available at the Regions Hospital, Mgbirichi.

No less than 1500 Imo citizens and other residents across the State with one health condition or the other registered to participate in the free medical mission when the State government, through a committee that comprised the Commissioner for Health, Prosper-Ohayagha Success and other members, embarked on sensitisation campaign for the medical outreach in December last year.

In his remarks, Success said that the visiting Physicians had long fused into a single team with their counterparts in Imo State tagged “Imo Mission Team” for the purpose of successfully driving the programme.
