The Rector, Redeemers’ College of Technology and Management, Redemption Camp, Ogun State, Prof. Adedeji Daramola, has restated the commitment of the polytechnic to technological development in the country.

He also re-affirmed the institution’s determination to provide leadership in technological revolution in Africa by advancing the frontiers of practical knowledge and education in the field of science, technology, management and other areas of studies in the interest of the nation and the world at large.

Daramola stated this at the maiden matriculation ceremony of the institution, held recently.

“The philosophy of RECTEM is to attain the ultimate height in providing middle level technical and vocational training of the highest standard in order to create a pool of highly trained technicians and technologists that will support the nation’s engineering infrastructural development,” he said.

The professor of architecture said the vision of the proprietor of the college, Pastor Enoch Adeboye, was to boost technological development in the country.

He said, “Essentially, the vision is to build human capacity by impacting knowledge in fields of science, technology and management to people of all races and to support the educational development of Nigeria in particular on the platform of the church.

“Part of the vision is to establish and operate a college of technology or polytechnic, which will provide middle level technical and vocational training of the highest standard in order to create a pool of highly trained technicians or technologists that will support the nation’s engineering infrastructural development as well as the growth and development of the country’s small and medium enterprises.”

On what the college could do to be unique, Daramola said RECTEM had a deliberate policy to establish educational and research collaborations with industries, sister institutions, universities, governments and companies throughout the nation and the world.

He said, “Through reverse technology, we intend to fast-track our learning process and practical knowhow. The location of the college, Redemption Camp, is deliberate because the camp is more or less a technological village due to the ongoing activities, as well as facilities such as 24-hour electricity supply, uninterrupted water supply, practical training centres as well as the serenity of the environment.

“RECTEM is fundamentally unique from similar institutions by virtue of its vigorous involvement in research and development in technology through its set pattern of exploratory innovation outside the traditional classroom environment. With the programmes of the College, duly approved by the National Board for Technical Education, training in the college shall be industry-focused through partnership link between the training providers, the industries and enterprises in line with the NBTE guidelines.”

Congratulating the 52 pioneer students of the college, the rector urged them to acknowledge God and be determined to work according to rules, saying, “You have a seed in your hand; make a forest of it because your destiny is determined by you and no one else.

“By this calculation today, you have unfettered access to all the privileges of this great institution. This has granted you the opportunity to reach greater heights, but the choice of what you want to be lies with you. Watch the company you keep and avoid evil communications.”
