We’ll frustrate attempts to truncate Tinubu’s inauguration, says Odunowo

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress and the National Chairman, Asiwaju Ahmed Tinubu Support Group, Yomi Odunowo, has condemned in strong terms, the distasteful attempts by some unscrupulous groups and people who were covertly working to thwart the inauguration of Bola Tinubu as the nation’s President on May 29.

He vowed that Nigerians would do everything possible to frustrate such sinister plans.

Odunowo, who made these remarks in a statement signed by his Special Adviser on Media, Seyi Shodipo, counseled that those behind the attempts to suspend the inauguration should desist forthwith as their activities were efforts bound for failure, more so that Nigerians would not be swayed by their mischief.

He described as absurd, the call for the suspension of the inauguration and the constitution of an interim government pending the determination of the various petitions before the Election Tribunal and the Courts as this suffers a serious fundamental defect in the sense that it is wholly unconstitutional and tantamount to a coup d’ etat.

The AATSG National Chairman, who specifically made reference to the provisions of Section 1 (2) of the 1999 Constitution, which states that the Federal Republic of Nigeria shall not be governed, nor shall any person or group of persons take control of the government of Nigeria or any part thereof, except in accordance with the provisions of this constitution, stressed that the interim government idea was an unconstitutional takeover of government which the 1999 constitution clearly outlawed.

The AATSG National Chairman charged both the Department of State Security Services, the Police and the Military, which had at one time or the other expressed concerns over the attempts by some people to scuttle the May 29 inauguration, to arrest the proponents and get them prosecuted to serve as a deterrent to others with similar sinister motives.

Odunowo noted that the calls for the suspension of the inauguration of the President – elect and the State Governors – elect were attempts by some disgruntled people to destabilise the country and cause chaos, lawlessness and anarchy as the country would be under an unconstitutional government, which is an aberration and alien to the Nigerian law.

“The issue of those working to truncate the May 29 inauguration should be treated as a threat to the security and stability of the country and efforts should be made by the security agencies not only to nip any security breach in the bud, but to also ensure there is peace and stability across every length and breadth of the country before, during and after the inauguration,” Odunowo said.

The APC chieftain, however, assured that with Nigerians’ patriotism to the country and loyalty to the APC and the President- elect, efforts were in top gear to reinforce resistance of all forms of undemocratic tendencies and anti – democratic forces seeking to truncate the May 29 inauguration.

He called on Nigerians to remain resolute and protect the mandate given to Tinubu with their votes on February 25 and not allow the nation’s enemies of democracy deny them of the incoming credible democratic leadership, which they had long sought for.

“Nothing under the sun will deny the swearing – in of Asiwaju Ahmed Tinubu as the next President and Commander – in – Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria come May 29 Insha Allah,” Odunowo concluded.
