We’ll give Rivers Utd good fight, says Gombe United coach, Garba

Gombe United Football Club coach, Manu Garba, has vowed to disunite the composition of Rivers United, as his wards file out in a Nigeria Professional Football League tie in Gombe on Sunday.

The former Golden Eaglets’ coach believes his boys are gradually living up to the expectations of their teeming fans. With three draws from seven home fixtures, Gombe United’s Manager knows the supporters are beginning to grow restive, and has called out for more patience from the fans, who are only enjoying top flight league this season, after three seasons in the lower division.

Three home draws against Plateau United Football Club, Akwa United FC and Shooting Stars Sports Club FC meant the club has dropped six points from a possible nine; enough to trigger a defensive plea from the coach to the supporters, as he looks forward to the soon-to-be-opened transfer window to shop for players.

In asking for their understanding, the former coach of the junior national team assured the fans that the technical crew is working very hard to bring out the best from the players.

While dropping points at home, the Desert Scorpions have had it tough going on the road, where they have failed to pick a single point.

After the games played so far, the club is placed 15th on the log with just one point above the drop, raising doubts and anxiety among the fans who are apprehensive that their darling club would again return to the lower league after just one season.

Reflecting on the team’s performance so far, Garba admitted that the team has struggled, but he said he is confident that a new Gombe United will emerge soon, adding that the incoming transfer window would give him the opportunity to strengthen the squad.

He told www.npfl.ng, “You will soon see a new Gombe United. We are going to reinforce our attack very well.

In all the matches that we have played, especially in the match against 3SC, we had like seven clear chances with which we could have buried the game, but we didn’t take our chances.

“There are games we could have drawn on the road, but like I said earlier, we did create the chances, but we have not been converting those chances, which means we have to try to reinforce our forward lines.

“Definitely we have to buy new players, especially in the attacking sector, and God willing, we are going to see a very good formidable team in the second stage.”

Gombe’s last outing was an away game at Kano Pillars, where they lost by 2-0 courtesy of a Musa Najere brace and the former Golden Eaglets’ coach insisted he is proud of his team’s performance.
