The president of the Ohaneze Ndi Igbo in the 19 northern states and Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, Augustine Amaechi, has said that the body would not abandon Nnamdi Kanu in his travail at this trying time.

Amaechi, in a telephone interview with The Point, said that the Ohaneze Ndi-Igbo was not troubled by the adjournment of the case by the Justice Binta Nyako to October 21.

He said, “Let me tell you that whichever direction the trial goes, of course, we expect it to be a fair one considering the fact that the judges are men of integrity. We expect them to be fair knowing that the whole world is watching not only this trial but the Nigerian judicial system.”

He debunked the news doing the rounds that the treasonable charge against the embattled IPoB leader might earn him death sentence, saying, “How many Nigerians had been killed because they were politically charged and because they were agitating for separation?

“I can assure you that the judicial process will play out, but the political process will also come into play if we want the problem to be solved.”

According to him, if Nnamdi Kanu is freed from the court today, the Federal Government may re-arrest him because they may not be happy. He stressed that if convicted with death sentence, the country would not know peace.

“The government of Nigeria needs peace and the citizens need peace. So, I believe sincerely that there will be a political solution to the problem.”
