We’ll send only qualified teachers to Liberia, says TRCN

The Teachers’ Registration Council of Nigeria has said that only teachers who are qualified and licensed to practice will be sent to Liberia as requested by President George Weah.

The TRCN has also said that about two million teachers have been licensed to practice in Nigeria.

The Registrar/Chief Executive Officer of TRCN, Prof. Segun Ajiboye, disclosed these while hosting the members of the Correspondents’ Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Oyo State chapter in Ibadan.

Ajiboye stressed that the request gladdened his heart as it is mandatory to register with TRCN before anyone can practise as a teacher.

“TRCN certificate is one of the criteria for employment. We’re collaborating with NUT (Nigeria Union of Teachers). Before you practise, you must take professional qualifications. It is compulsory to register and have the licence of practice”, the TRCN helmsman said.

He also disclosed that the council organises two diets of professional qualifying examination in a year.

The former union leader, however, reiterated his commitment to revolutionise TRCN and raise the standard of education in the country, saying, “Ajiboye has come to revolutionize TRCN, to remove those who are not qualified”.

He appealed to the state governments to take the issue of teachers’ welfare seriously, calling on the states still owing teachers’ salaries to pay them now.
