We’ll stop PVC distribution Feb. 8, INEC tells Ogun residents

The Independent National Electoral Commission  in Ogun State has said that no fewer than 759,660 Permanent Voter Cards have not been collected by eligible voters in the state.

The state Resident Electoral Commissioner, Prof. Abdulganiyu Raji, made this known recently at the Commission’s stakeholders’ forum, held at the June 12 Cultural Centre, Abeokuta, the Ogun State
capital. Raji, who stated that about 2,375,003, voters had registered with INEC in the state, explained that only 363,877 voters had collected their PVCs apart from those who had collected theirs before the 2015 elections, leaving a deficit of 759,660 uncollected PVCs.

The REC, however, appealed to eligible voters in the state to collect their PVCs at INEC offices in their local government areas, noting that the body would stop the distribution of the cards by February 8.

The REC disclaimed the rumour that the Commission would destroy all unclaimed PVCs if the owners failed to show up by the February 8 deadline.

He said, “In Ogun State today, we have about 2,357,003 voters that registered with us. After the 2015 elections, we have received about 1,123,537 PVCs, and as at today, only 363,877 voters have collected their cards, apart from those who had collected theirs before 2015. We have a deficit of 759,877 cards that are yet to be collected; we are making frantic efforts to get these voters to come and collect their
cards.
