We’re feeling the brunt of courts’ closure in Osun – Police lament

The Osun State Police Command has expressed displeasure with the prolonged closure of courts due to the industrial action embarked upon by the Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria in the state.

According to the police, the closure of courts was affecting their operations.

The Deputy Commissioner of Police, Hope Okafor, made this known in Osogbo while parading suspected criminals at the state police headquarters.

Okafor said the police could not grant administrative bail to some suspects because of the strike action of the judicial workers.

She said, “I hope you all know that Osun State Police Command has nothing to do with the situation (closure of court); we are feeling the brunt.

We have some suspects whose allegations are bordering on capital offences and you all know that we have no power to grant bail. So, you can imagine the effect that has.

“I want to urge the government of Osun State to do everything to expedite action in resolving that impasse because we are greatly affected.”

Okafor disclosed that some suspects have been arrested in connection with the recent cult clashes in Ilesa, saying, “I can tell you that we are on top of the situation in Ilesa.”

“The truth is that some suspects have been arrested, and it will not do the course of investigation any good to reveal how far we have gone and exactly what we are doing. We are taking every necessary step to make sure that the incident is curtailed,” she added.
