Kwara State Governor, Abulrahman Abdulrazak, said his administration has pulled thousands of the citizens of the state from excruciating poverty since its inception.
He said many of Kwara residents who hitherto, depended on politicians for their daily survival and had to practically stay put at the politicians’ homes for succour, benefited from the social investment programme of the administration.
Speaking on a current affairs programme on a radio programme monitored by our correspondent, the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Rafiu Ajakaye, said Abdulrazak was able to do this by creating viable economic programmes that have touched many lives in the last three years of his administration.
According to him, “in every area, when you look at social economic development, that is, social investment, the administration has ensured that we spend a big percentage of social resources to save our people from dejection and mass poverty.
“Several people, several thousands of people, have benefitted from “Owo Isowo.” We have tens of thousands of people benefitting from “Owo Arugbo” across the state. This is to ensure that our people who do not have anyone to take care of them, get lifted out of their despair.
“The government is putting money in their pocket every month to ensure their needs are met. Most of these people used to depend on politicians in their various localities to make ends meet but that has stopped. Most of them used to wait in the house of any politician for financial succour but now, their stories have changed for better. Kwara has never had something like this before. This is the first time any administration is putting that in place.”
Ajakaye also said Governor Abdulrazak has been able to touch every sector in the state.
Reacting to the resumption of Oyun Baptist High School, Ijagbo after the hijab crisis that forced the school to be closed, Ajakaye said, “There is no alternative to peace. No matter our differences to issues, the most important thing is that we need to come together and relate as brothers.
“First and foremost, we are human beings and we are members of the same community. We have been like that for decades. We should not let anything come between us.
“So far so good, we have been very appreciative that the people have been so corporative, the Muslims and the Christians alike. We will continue to appreciate them for that and we will continue to urge all the stakeholders not to allow anything to come between us,” he said.
