WhatsApp platform goes down globally

Instant messaging platform, WhatsApp has gone down in Nigeria and worldwide.

Users across the world have taken to different social media to complain about their inability to send or receive messages on the popular Meta-owned platform.

Although after opening the app, users can still access their conversations, but were unable to receive new messages, or able to send any.

A persistent message is showing for many users at the top of the app saying it is “connecting” to the server, but it then fails to do so.

According to a service status website, Downdetector, users began reporting problems with WhatsApp at just before 8am on Tuesday, with more than 12,000 reports to the website by 8.30am.

WhatsApp, one of the most popular messaging platforms in the country and around the world, is estimated to have more than 2bn active users globally.

The platform’s parent company, Meta, which also owns Facebook and Instagram, is yet comment on the development.
