Why Atiku can’t be Nigeria’s president – APC chieftains

Two chieftains of the ruling All Progressives Congress have declared former Vice President Atiku Abubarkar one of the biggest problems confronting the Nigerian nation.

The APC chieftains, including the Lagos State chapter’s Publicity Secretary, Mr. Joe Igbokwe, and the Ekiti State Chairman of the party, Mr. Jide Awe, in separate chats with our correspondent argued that Atiku was not sincere in advancing reasons for his decision to leave the ruling party.

They alleged that the former vice president was one of those who plunged the country in its current state, boasting that Atiku’s defection to the PDP was a futile effort.

Igbokwe told our correspondent, “Let me tell you, it is you people that are over-rating Atiku. Atiku is one of the people that brought us to this mess that we are in this country today. He is one of the problems of this country. Nigerians need to stop celebrating corrupt people. He is one of the principal actors that brought us to this bad condition and these people who destroyed our yesterday cannot come and say they want to correct the future.

“Atiku’s candidacy calls for questioning. When you start aspiring to be the number one desperately, we have to begin look at your past. We have a lot of criminals in the APC and in PDP. And when you want to be the number one at all cost, we have to let the world know you. If he had been quiet in APC, nobody would have bothered.”

The Ekiti State APC chairman on his part, condemned Atiku’s reasons for leaving the APC, adding that the former vice president was being economical with the truth on his defection.

Awe said that the former vice president was overwhelmed by his selfish interest.

“Atiku is only being ambitious. I believe that the reasons that he gave for quitting the party are not genuine enough to motivate people. He was being economical with the truth,” he said.

Awe also noted that the Ekiti State chapter of the party was confident that Atiku’s defection would have no effect on APC members in the state.

“We are not moved in the party with his defection, as our members in Ekiti State are mature enough to know that following Atiku to the PDP is like going back to the ‘red sea’,” he said.

He, therefore, charged party’s supporters in the state and across the country to remain steadfast as the APC would not fail to deliver in its promises to the masses.
