Why I asked court to stop my son’s wedding – Obasanjo’s wife

One of the wives of former President Olusegun Obasanjo, Taiwo Obasanjo, has approached a Lagos State High Court, sitting in Ikeja, presided over by Justice Lateefa Okunnu, asking that the wedding of their son, Olujonwo, scheduled to hold on May 11 and 12, be put on hold.

Mrs. Obasanjo is asking to the court to stop the wedding of her son to Tope Adebutu, a daughter of Sir Kessington Adebutu, popularly known as ‘Baba Ijebu.’

In the suit, which had as respondents, former President Obasanjo and Sir Adebutu, Mrs Obasanjo is seeking a declaration that as the groom’s mother, she has parental rights to take part in the deliberations, decisions and activities leading to the forthcoming ceremony.

Claiming that while the wedding date had been fixed and invitation cards given out, she, as the groom’s mother, had been excluded from all the preparations for the wedding.

Mrs Obasanjo added that prior to fixing the date of the wedding date, she had a premonition regarding her son, who will turn 34 on June 1

She said that she had received prophesies and spiritual warnings that Olujonwo should not partake in any elaborate celebration before his 34th birthday, whereas the wedding had been fixed for May 11 and 12, two weeks before Olujonwo’s 34th birthday.

Mrs. Obasanjo noted that the purpose of her suit was to compel her husband and Adebutu to shift the wedding to a date beyondJune 1. This, she said, was to avoid any impending calamity.

She added that she was resorting to the court after her plea to Adebutu, and his wife, Rosemary, was ignored and was rather insulted by members of the family.Hearing in the suit, marked ID/26FPM/2017 has been fixed for April 10, by Justice Okunnu.
