Why rapists must get maximum sentence – SAAB Foundation

Non-Governmental Organisation, SAAB Foundation, has urged the National and state houses of Assembly across the country to enact laws that will give the maximum sentence to anyone convicted of gender-based violence in the country.

The Founder of the Foundation, Saadat Bibire, made this call at the second edition of the foundation’s campaign walk against rape and gender-based violence in Ilorin, Kwara State.

Bibire, who said the campaign was motivated through the need to create wider and visible acts in the public to kick against the menace of rape and gender based intimidation, argued that until the laws against rape were made more stringent, the menace would continue to occur in the society.

She said the girl-child should have equal access to qualitative education and life-changing economic opportunities in a healthy and safe environment within an equitable and just society.

Bibire added that government and other non-governmental organisations could also develop strategic partnership with the stakeholders, which would in turn reduce the high rate of unemployment of women in the society.
